Introduction of 4 Zinc Alloys Commonly Used in Die Casting

This article introduces the properties, advantages and disadvantages, and application industries of 4 zinc alloys commonly used in die casting.

Zamak 2

Density: 6.7 g/cm³
Melting point: 385°C
Yield strength: ≥ 165 MPa
Tensile strength: ≥ 215 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 2%
Hardness: Approx. 75 HRB
Source: NADCA Standard – Alloy Data Sheet Zinc Alloy 2

Zamak 2

Characteristics: high strength and hardness, excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance, reliable mechanical properties.
Advantages: good fluidity and castability; good wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
Disadvantages: higher melting point and solidification temperature; easy to produce pores.
Application industry: auto parts, electronic and electrical accessories, furniture hardware accessories, etc.

Zamak 3

Density: 6.7 g/cm³
Melting point: 385°C
Yield strength: ≥ 165 MPa
Tensile strength: ≥ 215 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 5%
Hardness: Approx. 70 HRB

Zamak 3

Characteristics: Good fluidity, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, easy to process and coat. Has higher density and lower thermal conductivity.
Advantages: low melting point, easy to melt and injection molding; high strength and hardness; good surface coating performance.
Disadvantages: poor dimensional stability; high brittleness, easy to produce pores; performance will decrease at high temperatures.
Application industries: auto parts, electronic and electrical components, furniture accessories, etc.

Zamak 5

Density: 6.7 g/cm³
Melting point: 385°C
Yield strength: ≥ 130 MPa
Tensile strength: ≥ 230 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 3%
Hardness: Approx. 82 HRB
Source: NADCA Standard – Alloy Data Sheet Zinc Alloy 5

Zamak 5

Characteristics: High strength and hardness, good wear resistance, high tensile strength. It still maintains good mechanical properties at high temperatures.
Advantages: It has good corrosion resistance, rigidity and wear resistance; it can be used in high temperature environment.
Disadvantages: relatively high melting point, slightly more difficult processing; low cold chamber mold casting capacity.
Application industry: auto parts, construction and construction accessories, industrial equipment parts, etc.

Zamak 7

Density: 6.7 g/cm³
Melting point: 385°C
Yield strength: ≥ 90 MPa
Tensile strength: ≥ 165 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 6%
Hardness: approx. 60 HRB
Source: NADCA Standard – Alloy Data Sheet Zinc Alloy 7

Zamak 7

Characteristics: High strength and hardness, excellent corrosion resistance, good mechanical properties.
Advantages: lower melting point and solidification temperature; good fluidity and castability.
Disadvantages: Relatively low cold chamber mold casting capacity.
Application industries: auto parts, household items, decorations, etc.
